Plug in Outlets that have been added to the Spruce controller can be turned on and off from the Device Settings section in the app.  Using the on and off commands, the outlet can be tested as well as used to turn on or off a plug in electrical device.

Turning On an Outlet

If the controller looses power, outlets will remain on and will not turn off at the set time until the controller has reconnected to wifi

  1. Under Device Settings->Other Devices select the outlet to control
  2. Tap the Turn On button
  3. Select “indefinitely” to turn the outlet on without a turn off time or select a time for the outlet to turn off automatically

Turning Off an Outlet

  1. Under Device Settings->Other Devices select the outlet to control
  2. Tap the Turn Off button

What can I do with the Outlet

Most outlets are rated at 15 amps, and can operate most plug in appliances or lights.  Follow the electrical ratings specified by the outlet manufacturer.

Outlet Troubleshooting

Unresponsive Outlet

  1. Turn the outlet on and off manually with the button on the outlet, then retry controlling the outlet through the app
  2. Follow the instructions to remove and add the outlet back to the Spruce controller in Adding a Range Extender support article and the instructions associated with your outlet

Outlet did not turn off at set time

  1. The outlet will not turn off at the set time if the controller has lost power
  2. Check the outlet is responsive

Is the Outlet acting as a range extender

  1. The Zigbee plug in outlets will automatically be used as range extenders when connected to the Spruce controller
  2. The routes will be discovered and updated automatically but could take some time to update
  3. The routes are arranged to maximize signal strength
